Coal India Ltd., India's largest state-run coal miner, reported its coal production rise 9.51% year on year to 59.9 million tonnes in May, up 3.99% month on month, the company said in a statement.
The volume hit a new high of the same month in past years.
The company produced 54.7 million tonnes of coal in May 2022, while production in April 2023 was 57.6 million tonnes.
In May this year, CIL's coal sales were 63.7 million tonnes, up 4.08% from 61.2 million tonnes a year ago and 2.08% from 62.4 million tonnes.
Coal output of the company totaled 117.5million tonnes during the first two months (April-May) of this fiscal year, up 8.6% from a year ago. Coal sales during the same period were 126 million tonnes, up 6.24% on the year.
CIL supplied 22.3 million tonnes of coal to power industry in May, rising 29% year on year. As of end-May, coal stocks at CIL were 61 million tonnes.
