China's wind, solar and hydroelectric power capacity rose to account for 50.5% of its total installed power generation capacity in early 2022, state media CCTV reported.

The milestone comes as China moves to cut greenhouse gas emissions to meet its climate targets of peaking emissions at 2030 and realizing neutrality by 2060.

Installed non-fossil power capacity rose 15.9% in the first quarter from a year ago to 1,330 GW, or nearly three times that of the United States, according to the report.

Specifically, China had 430 GW of solar power, 376 GW of wind power and 524 GW of hydroelectricity capacity by the end of March. China's installed capacity of wind, solar and hydro all topped the world.

Power generation from non-fossil energy sources rose 8.9% in the first quarter from a year ago, accounting for 33.6% of total generation, state television said, citing data from China's energy regulator.
