China's installed power capacity up 9.7% YoY by end-Apr, NEA

China's installed electricity generation capacity reached 2.65 TW by the end of April, a 9.7% rise from a year earlier, showed data from the National Energy Administration on May 19.


Wind installed capacity was 379.66 GW, up 12.2% year on year in the first four months of the year, and solar capacity rose 36.6% to 440.5 GW, the NEA data showed.


Hydropower installations totaled 416.33 GW, up 5.3% from a year earlier, while thermal capacity reached 1,344.89 GW, a 3.3% rise year on year. Nuclear capacity climbed 4.3% to 56.76 GW.


In January-April, raw coal consumption for heating was registered at 157.09 million tonnes, up 3.2% year on year.


In the first four months of this year, utilization of all power generation units averaged 1,145 hours, down 31 hours from the preceding year.


By source, hydro- and solar-based units declined 167 hours and 17 hours to 738 hours and 415 hours, respectively. The operation of thermal and nuclear units gained 7 hours and 25 hours respectively to 1,424 and 2,472 hours. Wind power utilization increased 87 hours to 866 hours, data showed.


In January-April, China invested a total of 180.2 billion yuan in power projects, a 53.6% rise year on year. Investment on solar farm soared 156.3% to 74.3 billion yuan and nuclear power rose 52.4% to 21.2 billion yuan. The investment on grid projects rose 10.3% to 98.4 billion yuan.
